The Korean entertainment industry is mourning the loss of actress Kang Seo-ha, who passed away on July 13 after a brave battle with stage 4 gastric cancer. She was undergoing her second round of treatment following initial chemotherapy when her health reportedly declined rapidly.
Actor Park Joo-hyun, a close friend and classmate of Kang Seo-ha from the Korea National University of Arts, paid tribute to her in a heartfelt message posted on Seo-ha’s social media on July 14. “I pray for the peaceful repose of the deceased. Umji… Don’t fall sick over there, and keep your beautiful smile,” Park wrote in mourning. Both actors were born in 1994 and had maintained a close friendship over the years.
According to a report by Mail Business Star Today, Kang Seo-ha’s funeral is being held at the funeral hall of Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, Room 8. The final rites will take place at 7:40 a.m. on July 16, and she will be laid to rest in Haman, Gyeongsangnam-do.
A touching tribute was also posted on her personal SNS account, reflecting the deep sorrow felt by those close to her. “I still can’t believe it. Even while enduring unbearable pain, she was always thinking of others, worrying about me. My angel who never missed a chance to feed me, even insisting I pay with her card while she herself hadn't eaten for months. I feel ashamed for only saying ‘thank you’ as she held on with painkillers. My sister worked so hard... I hope you’re happy now, free from pain,” the post read.
Kang Seo-ha made her debut in the entertainment world in 2012 through a music video by Brave Girls. She transitioned to acting with JTBC's Sunam Girls' High School Detective Team and went on to appear in a number of productions, including KBS’s Assembly, Again, First Love, and Padoya Padoya; MBC’s Okjunghwa; and SBS’s Thoracic Surgery.
Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of colleagues, fans, and loved ones alike, as they remember her talent, kindness, and strength.
